Team Yankee 6mm

Just to reinforce the fact that I can not keep myself on one track here is a trial paint job on some EBay goodness.

I won a couple of lots on Ebay to start my Team Yankee 6mm project, I love the Cold War gone hot scenario and love GHQ miniatures, despite the price of them.

 The loot I won, 30 T80s, 30 BMP2s and support vehicles.

A 10 tank T80 company, a nice simple paint job, but I think it looks quite effective.

A base spray of Army Painter Army Green, a light dry brush of a pale green, pick out the tracks and details.

The cover in a good coat of Army Painter Dark Tone wash, not the thick dip but the squeeze bottle acrylic wash.

Once it is all dry the last stage is a nice dry brush of a pale sand colour to bring out the fantastic detail on these models.

My only frustration with these is the turret HMGs such a pain to cut off the sprue and glue on....but after chatting with others in the TY 6mm community, most don't bother lol

Happy to read comments.

Wargames Butterfly!!

My names Bunny and I'm addicted to wargaming models lol!  And yes a self confessed wargames butterfly!

I've been eyeing these tiny 3mm miniatures for some time and finally took the plunge when I saw them at Salute this year!

They are made by Oddzial Osmy from Poland and sold in the UK by Fighting 15s and Magister Militum.

So here they are, the tiny little pieces of metal.

Soviet T64s, considering the size they minis are great!

 Prepped

Base coated Army Painter Desert Yellow....

Ok missed a section out, the dry brushing of a 'skull' buff colour.  But here is the model with a coat of Army Painter Dark Tone dip....

So jumping a head......23 finished minis....a T64 tank company based in platoons and a BMP2 company alongside, HQ vehilces are individually based.  The 2 BMP2s are a Recce section.

The BMP2 company....I'm really liking these minis and they are so easy to paint!

 T64 Company

 BMP2 Recce Section

And just to show how small these tanks really are, the figure is a 15mm.  They have such detail fofr such small figures.....

These companies will form part of my Middle East 'Imagi-nations' armies....I'm going to do a Republican Guard armoured brigade, with air mobile and air support.

15mm FOW Soviets (comission)

More anti tank guns, these are the 100mm mosters, surely a pain in the butt for any Panzer commander!

Artillery command element, on terrain base, also the obligatory Commissar to ensure correct Soviet doctrine!

An objective marker or just a piece of terrain....a knocked out Soviet light tank

Commision Work, FOW Soviet

The next lot out of the commissions box, a battery of Soviet 75mm Anti Tank Guns.  These models come with 'scenic' bases which are nice and a pain at the same time.

Commissin Work, FOW Soviets

I have added some more to Al's vast WW2 Soviet horde, he is an avid gamer and treasurer of my local club PAW.

He has given me another box of the Reds to do for him.

First up Katushas

I couldn't resist painting the central wheel nuts of the front wheels red.....after all they are in the shape of the star!

Painting Soviet Tanks

My painting system for Soviet armor is very simple and easy. Once assembled spray Battlefront Soviet Armor, a liberal wash of GW Devlan Mud, dry brush Vallejo Russian Green then highlight with a mix of Vallejo Russian Green and Dark Sand.
Track were done with neutral steel and then heavily washed with GW Black wash.
The front and rear of the model was then stippled with Vallejo Flat Earth to give it the dirty look!

Soviet Tread Heads!!

So I have had a little push on the Flames of War front and painted a lot of Soviets again!

below were the first of the armored units.

5 KV1s, these model are Battlefront and were great to paint and look good!
A view I will try not to offer a German tank or Pak gun!
T34/85s for the late period, again Battlefront minis that I bought on EBay (god bless them!)
Well that the start of my Soviet push and now there are another 10 KV1s, this time Zvede and another platoon of infantry. Recent purchases include 2 platoons of Sappers, with vehicles, £20 on my show's bring and buy, more infantry, Starlin Organsf and artillery off EBay!
The Soviets will be a very large army!!!!

FOW Soviet Heavy Mortars

To add some close in heavy support we have a company of heavy mortars, these four tubes will provide a nasty shock for the German invader when they dare to take more soil from the motherland!!

Command Team and FOOs
Heavy Mortar Section
Not sure if I put the models the correct way on the base??? Too late now!

FOW Soviets

Ok more of the Red Tide........First off is a Commissar Team, these are QRF? Would someone let me know.

The first batch of painted Plastic Soldier Company, a group of 25. AS you can see they paint up as well as their metal comrades and in the next picture you will see that they are quite close in height and stature. They should mix quite well. My only concern with these figures is there lack of variation, the same basic poses are used twice, just different head gear. That is why I am keen for them to blend with the QRF.
The comparison,
Left to right
QRF, Battelfront Plastic Soldier Company
I should be ok.
In most 'historical' armies I generally only like to use one manufacturer's figures. But with these the PSC where an impulse buy at PAW2011 and the QRF were a steal on EBay. Hopefully the gamble will pay off.

Heavy Mortar Company

Some heavy mortar support for my soviet infantry. A 2 platoon company, very nice models and happy with the look. These are Battlefront Miniatures although they are not as 'stocky' as their SMG troops.

A close up of the individual 'tube'.

The essential bit of the company, the commander and the spotter team.

Flames of War Soviets

Hi guys, here are some examples of, what I think are QRF Russians? Please correct me if I am wrong.
They are nice figures and paint up very well. They are not as chunky as the Battlefront SMG platoon figures but having painted some Battlefront heavy mortars they fit in size with the crews?

So far I have painted about 80 of these guys, so just about a company's worth.

FOW Soviets

Ok, finally get to paint some of my own collection! I have got the FOW bug and have chosen Soviets. I wanted to do Germans but there are already at least 2 German armies at the club.

This is the first Soviet platoon that I have painted and they are Battlefront miniatures. They were very nice to paint and I am doing them in a way which should make the army quite quick.

If you look at the pictures you will see I have gone away from my usual drybrush painting method and adopted a block style with a wash.

I wanted the Soviets to look quite dark and dirty, I think I achieved that a little too well on this platoon!

The basic method was an undercoat spray of FOW German Armour, which is a yellow ochre colour. Then I just painted the figure's details, webbing, weapons flesh and helmet etc.
The whole lot was then given a wash of Games Workshop Delvin Mud which brings out the creases and gives them some depth.

For this army I have somehow managed to get a mix of three different manufacturers Battlefront, QRF and The Plastic Soldier company.
I will do a comparison shot once I have painted examples of all three.

Comments welcome.........
