ACW Confederates

Sorry for the poor pictures but these are the latest Old Glory Confederates for my Regimental Fire and Fury non-project.....Good news is I have bought myself a second hand copy of the rule book and look forward to reading it.

I painted these whilst watching the film 'Gods and Generals', great inspiration!

Another New Project :-( Or Non Project 15mm American Civil War

So for over a year I have had a large(ish) pile of 15mm Old Glory ACW figures and after playing a game of Regimental Fire and Fury some months ago I thought I would add them to my 'to do' lost.  So in the spirit of my mix and match box I added some bags of these figures and I pulled one of the bags out!

These are figures advancing at the shoulder wearing greatcoats, fun and quick to paint and I think they look quite nice.

Quite quick to paint, various shades of grey, a coat of Army Painter Dark Tone and matt spray...done!  The flags are self printed from an open internet source.

ACW 10mm WIP

Continuing progress on my ACW 10mm project.  5 regiments painted and bases.  One of them, front left has also been washed in Army Painter Dark Tone Dip.  I apply this slightly diluted, with a brush the effects are very nice.

So 5 more regiments, including 2 Zouaves regiments, may be not historically correct but they add a little bit of colour.

Below is a comparison shot, not a very good one I'm afraid as it was taken on my IPad.  The base in the front has been washed.  I feel the dip wash makes a lot of difference and is better in real life.

I have painted another 2 units and 2 more to go before I start on 3 units of cavalry both mounted and dismounted.

Then it will be time for the North to rise.....

ACW Confederates

So after spending my evenings away at work painting, I spent some evenings at home basing.  Here is my 10mm Confederates, there are 7 units of foot and 2 batteries of guns.

They are based on 30mm x 30mm and I intend to use them for Black Powder, apparently there is going to be a proper ACW supplement.
I also have the option of using them for Sam Mustapha's new 'Longstreet' rules but I don't know much about them yet but it appears that the 'unit' could be quite large, so we shall wait and see.

These miniatures are all Pendarken and are just fantastic, I could not recommend them highly enough.

The painting method is quite basic, they were sprayed Army Painter Uniform Grey, then the details and  other uniform colours were added.  They were then given a coat of Army Painter 'Dark Tone' wash.
Once they were based and flocked they were given a spray coat of Army Painter 'Anti-Shine' varnish.  The combination of the wash and the varnish should also give them plenty of protection.

Obviously I still have the flags to add but that will be done once the army is completed.
I have now purchased enough metal for the rest of the army and will be working my way through them
whilst I am away.

As always comments more than welcome, good or bad! lol

10mm ACW WIP

Here are some pictures of my first ACW 10mm.  They are Pendraken minis are great to paint.
They are obviously a WIP as I have no basing materials here in Kabul.

The figures themselves are really lovely sculpts and paint up very well.  I have not gone made on the paint detail, I don't think it is necessary.

They were sprayed Army Painter Army Grey, then dry brushed with a light grey all over.  Details were picked out in various colours bringing out hats, blanket rolls, straps and pouches.  Weapons were painted and chestnut brown and gunmetal silver, flesh is GW Dwarf Flesh, not for any other reason than that is what I have.

Once dry the models were covered with Army Painted Dark Tone wash.  The wash was applied with a large brush.  I think the wash really brings out the detail and overall produces a good look for not a lot of effort.

I can paint a unit of 24 figures in about 3 hours, not including base spray and wash, which I normally do the day before and the day after painting, respectively.
Painted but not washed, looking flat with just block paint work

First unit finished

Second unit

Close up, see how the wash brings out the detail

Close up under a different light, see that the wash does not make them look dirty.
Once the figures have been based the bases will be sprayed with a matt varnish to seal them and reduce the shine.

More pictures to come once completed, I have also done another two units since these were finished, so 4 down probably another 12 to do!
