Kings Of War in 15mm

In August my 10 year old son and I played our first game of Kings of War.  I kept it simple, I'm new to the rules as well, so no magic, no objectives just a stand up battle.

We played Kingdom of Men(Empire) against Orcs.  It was quite a large battle, several thousand points and lots of figures on the table, we both love the sight of large armies...

Obviously mistakes were made, rules forgotten but as an introduction game we really enjoyed it and my son wanted to keep going, even though my Orcs were decimating his feeble humans lol

So the pictures.....

The mighty Orc hordes stretch as far as the eye can see!

The mammoths counted as non flying Krudgers

Line breaker trolls, very useful

The Empire army, colourful, proud and stubborn but mostly destroyed by the end lol

The heart of the Empire forces, the pike blocks

Shot troops supported by halberdiers and double handed swordsmen.

The proud Empire General

The line breakers surge forward to make holes in the Empire line.

They took some damage on the way in from the handgunners...but regeneration is a great thing!

The Krudgers hit the empire line, casualties all around.

The only mounted elements of the Orc horde meet Empire mounted shot....they didn't like it.

The Trolls continue their advance into the center of the Empire line.

Empire mounted shot get a little too close to the Trolls and paid the price in the next round.

Pike in the flank....I'll let you guess the rest.

Empire pike and swordsmen.

Orc regiment hits an Empire giant.

The Empire 'dead'

The Orc 'dead'

Overall it was a good fun game, as I said my son just wanted to keep playing.  Whish for me was a very good thing as living in southern Portugal wargaming opponents are few and far between!

We will play again, when I'm home next and I will re-read the rules not that much more will stick but thats just the way my mind works.

The Orcs are all Battle Valor, great figures.  The Empire are Blue Moon Italian Wars, some Old Glory and the giants are old Marauder, yes they are that old, Empire Trolls.

Undead So Far

So the first batch of 3D Sculpt Undead have been completed, this is a follow on for the batch painted in July.

They are based on 80mm frontage.  I play Kings of War and probably the fantasy version of Hail Caesar.

The Grave Guard and Skeletal Warriors I kept on their six figure strips, basically the printing does not allow separation.  But I do like the dense look and I will order the rest in strips.

Grave Guard

Skeletal Warriors

Wraiths, these I cut down into singles, doubles and triples as best I could.  I wanted the dispersed look, I think it looks better.

As you can see from my previous post the remainder I ordered were single sculpts.

The Zombies, again cut down of the strips.  These figures are just fun!

Skeletal knights, what can I say but great figures, again!

I painted these guys up using Warhammer Old World colour schemes just because I liked the look and thought it would be good Empire troops facing their fallen predecessors.

I ordered the remainder of the Wraiths, previous post, Zombies and Ghouls.  All individual prints and number a couple of hundred figures.  Once I have painted these I will order the Grave Guard and Skeletal Warriors.

Undead Wraiths

I made an order with my guy in France who 3D Prints the Forest Dragon range in Europe, living in Portugal it is problematic to order from the UK at the moment.

I ordered individual prints of Wraiths, Zombies and Ghouls.  I will repeat myself and say I love these sculpts.

I painted up 9 bases worth of Wraiths, 8 per base.  The basing is not complete yet but you get the idea.

This is how they will look.

15mm Fantasy-Undead

Now this new army, these are my test bases are a new avenue for me on several fronts.  The figures themselves are 3D printed resign figures.  The design is Forest Dragon in the UK printed for me by a very nice man in France.  As I live in Portugal the shipping and tax costs from the UK are a little high at the moment.

The figures themselves are great sculpts, up-sized from 10mm to 15mm.  The detail is fantastic and the poses are wonderful.  The figures I bought came in strips, which I regretted as as i tried to crop a few away I did have casualties, the horsemen are meant to have a standard bearer but he did not make it lol  Next time I will order individual prints which is a service that both Forest Dragon and my printer offer.

The second is the painting, I tried Games Workshop Contrast Paints for the first time.  The skeleton bone, black and most of the red are all Contrast.  To be honest when I first applied the paint I was not convinced but once the models were complete i think it works rather well and it did shorten the painting time.

The trial batch I ordered in full.  Basing will happen once I am home.

Two main stays of the army Skeletal warriors and Reavers.  I left these on the strips with overlapping figures.

Some Zombies in the foreground

The Zombies in all their glory, the variety and animation is great.

Skeletal Knights...Great figures very 'alive'.  I have painted the barding and shields in Old Warhammer  World livery to represent resurrection of their former selves.

Wraiths....all in black and heavily armed!

I must repeat these figures are stunning and I really enjoyed painting them.  Forest Dragon do so many great races and they are expanding....I am sure a lot more will fall into my collection.

15mm Fantasy-The Empire of Men

So here are the largest contingent that I have done for my fantasy collection.  I was fortunate to buy a very large job lot of Blue Moon Italian Wars figures, some figures painted but most unpainted.  I already have a large amount of painted Landsknechts and Gendarmes so I was able to use the excess to fill up the ranks of my fantasy Empire armies.  I have used livery and standards from the Warhammer Empire world really love the way they look.

Here are a few of pictures......

Handgunners, painted as Nuln and double handed swords in the background, Altdorf I think?

Another view of the double handed swordsmen, some halberdiers and a unit of Sterland light horse, think Border Horse.

Two units of pikes on their painting sticks.  Not quite sure which city state they represent, I think Reichland?

Mounted Reichsguard knichts

A pike block with doublehanded swordsmen and halberdiers to the fore.

Some commanding nobles.

Reichland pike?

I really like the look of these miniatures and they army as a whole.  I will try and do a completed picture once I get home.
