10mm Russian Seven Years War

A little bit of variety for this post and a return to an old project.  I have added more Russian regiments to my collection based on the Russian army at the battle of Zorndorff.

Below we have 220 infantrymen and 4 mounted generals.

All figures are from the great Pendraken range and flags were self printed, apart from the very bad grenadier ones which i had to hand paint, very badly lol

10MM Seven Years War Russians

So after the Giant army I went the opposite way and returned to some 10mm Seven Years Wars.  As part of my Seven Years War collection I'm building the Russian army for the battle of Zorndoff.
So lots of red uniforms.....and quite a few cossacks.

Here are a few pictures of the batch I painted
9 Generals
 9 Horse Grenadiers
40 Grenadiers
120 Musketeers

Sorry for the bad pics, IPad.

Just a very quick update, only one unit of Russian Cuirassiers, Prince Fedorovich.

10mm Seven Years War

I have not painted 10mm Seven Years War for ages but a few packs fell in to my hands out of my 'lucky dip box' (I bag my figures for my ongoing projects into units and put them all into a big plastic tub and blind pic what to paint).  It just so happens that I got three bags in a row this time around.

The whole batch.  In front are 5 Russian Generals.

The Novotroiskiy Cuirassier, now all Russian cuirassiers in this period look the same.  Buff coats, red saddle cloths and black cuirass.
The only thing that marks the regiments apart are the colours of their standards, this regiments colour is green.

The 2nd and 3rd Battalions of the Observation Corps Grenadiers.  the Observation Corps wore standard infantry uniform except for their boots, they had been issued with black dragoon boots, the dragoons where being reorganised at the start of the war.

All figures are from Pendraken, my only (very small) moan, more of a exhale is the cast on flags and this is only because I am not a very good, in fact I'm rubbish, at freehand painting lol

Seven Years War Black Powder Game

Whilst at home I managed to play a large game of Seven Years War in 10mm at PAW.

The field was occupied by a Prussian Army confronted by a combined Russian and Austrian force.

We used the new edition of Black Powder, BP2.

The table was 8 foot by 4 foot and the armies numbered over 50 battalions, with over 1000 foot figures.  Then of course we had the cavalry.

The long view, AustroRussian on the left and Prussian on the right

Mass Russian cavalry on the right wing

Line and lines of red coated Russians

The Austrians on the left

Prussian left wing cavalry

Prussian center

Prussian right cavalry

Austrians and Prussians clash in the center

Overview of the center

Russians on the hill

Austrians and Prussians clash over the hedges

The game came to an end too soon, so a marginal victory for the AustroRussians but it was a great game to play.

BP2, with army list additions from Olicanlad (check out his great blog http://olicanalad.blogspot.com/)

I love playing large games, to me this is what wargaming is all about....hence my aim of collecting big armies lol

All the figures are the fantastic Pendraken,( https://pendraken.co.uk/) thanks Leon.

A Game-Seven Years War with Black Powder

Whilst home from work I managed to get a game in, yes an unusual occurrence but a very enjoyable one.

Having never been used my 10mm Seven Years Austrians, me and Russians, Clive needed to see the light of day.  I did not quite have enough Russians so they were ably assisted by the Reichesarmee, although they were treated as Russians.  No army lists were used, we just made up brigades with what I had and put them on the table.

I'm sorry about the quality of the pictures I took them on my IPad.

Austrian right wing, a brigade of hussars and cuirassier with an infantry brigade advancing to the front.

The Austrian line, four brigades of cavalry and four of infantry.

The Russian left flank, a large brigade of Cossacks, who proved to be quite useless so may need to adjust their stats.  Inside them are a brigade of hussars and a brigade of cuirassier.  Unfortunately for Clive he never managed to get the hussars and cuirassier into combat.

A closer look at the Austrian right wing, hussars and cuirassier in all their glory.  The hussars managed to destroy the Cossack brigade for the loss of one regiment.

Austrian infantry brigade

The Austrian left, a brigade of Cuirassie and a brigade of Grenze

The Russian right, opposing the cuirassier and Grenze are two brigades of Russian cuirassier and a three gun 'grand battery' on the hill.

In the center an Austrian Dragoon brigade of three dragoon regiments and a combined Horse Grenadier regiment.  These saw a lot of action against Russian infantry and suffered 50% casualties.

An over-view of the center, the infantry are a brigade of Hungarians who advanced smartly towards the Russians and then blundered and marched all the way back to their own table edge.

Infantry clash on the Austrian right.  The walled field is held by Hanoverian and Reichsarmee regiments.  The 'skull' casualty markers are made by Charlie Foxtrot.

The center of the table, a village with an important road junction in it is held by the Russians and they never lost it!  They were helped by the stonewalls were fronted by.   The buildings are 6mm scale but look correct for 10mm.

the ineffective Hungarians.....

The Russian line in action, they had a strong defensive position which proved too much for the Austrians.

We called the game after about 3 hours and could not play it to a conclusion.  We made numerous errors with the rules, being novices but really enjoyed it.

The unit stats were taken from a couple of sources and need a little adjusting, Cossacks need to be a little stronger.

Soon I will have a Prussian army to take the field.

10mm is a wonderful scale to play in, you really get the mass effect with a very good amount of individual detail.

The Black Powder, Pike and Shotte and Hail Caesar are my go to sets, at the minutes and are fun to play.

Now back at work and back to my painting routine...updates will follow.

Seven Years War Russian

I am putting new life into an old project, but very slowly lol

These are 3 8pdr Unicorn guns for the Russian armies of the Seven Years War.  I am re-looking at my SYW collection and beginning to arrange armies on actual Orbats.  I'n not sure which battle I will base the Russians on

As always these are the great Pendraken minis

10mm 7 Years War

More additions to the Seven Year War project, two Reichsarmee units and two Hanovarian units for the Allied Pragmatic Army.

As with the previous Russians I have manged to find and print up some free flags off the Interweb!

Two Reichsarmee and Two Hanovarian Units

Hanovarian 11B de le Chevallerie

Hanoverian Combined Grenadiers.  Hanoverian foot regiments had only a small company of grenadiers each.  So this combined regiment is made up of four separate detachments from regiments 3A Knesdenberg, 6A Hardenberg, 10A Post and 13A Halberstadt.

Reichsarmee combined grenadiers from Kurmainz and Mainz Krisregiments.

The latest batch of my 7YW Russian project.
One regiment of Horse Grenadiers and three foot regiments.

 Regiment Suzdalskiy

Regiment Neshebugskiy

Horse Grenadiers St Petersburgskiy
