Here is a selection of the Battlefront FOW US Infantry that I painted for one of the guys at PAW.
I used the same painting method as the Russians, coloured primer, this time Army Painter Army Green, then paint the details.  Once dry I simply applied a coat of Army Painter Dark Tone....the final coat is a spray matt varnish.  I spray the varnish on once the basing is complete as it helps hold everything together.

15mm FOW Soviets (comission)

More anti tank guns, these are the 100mm mosters, surely a pain in the butt for any Panzer commander!

Artillery command element, on terrain base, also the obligatory Commissar to ensure correct Soviet doctrine!

An objective marker or just a piece of terrain....a knocked out Soviet light tank

Commision Work, FOW Soviet

The next lot out of the commissions box, a battery of Soviet 75mm Anti Tank Guns.  These models come with 'scenic' bases which are nice and a pain at the same time.

Commissin Work, FOW Soviets

I have added some more to Al's vast WW2 Soviet horde, he is an avid gamer and treasurer of my local club PAW.

He has given me another box of the Reds to do for him.

First up Katushas

I couldn't resist painting the central wheel nuts of the front wheels red.....after all they are in the shape of the star!

Commission Work FOW Russians

Commissar
Officers and Commissar to lead the brave men of the Soviet Union!

Officers and Commissar

Assault Engineers
The assault engineers are the heavily armed assault troops of the Red Army that lead the way when taking on the stubborn defenses of the German Fatherland.

A group shot of what I have painted in this session. 28 elements of Assault Engineers, 8 elements of Ivans (infantry), 4 HMGs, 4 Medium Mortars and 6 commanders a total of 261 figures.

These are the latest part of a commisson given to me by a PAW club memeber Al.  He has amassed a very large WW2 Russian collection for both FOW and Bolt Action.

FOW Hungarian Artillery

Hungarian artillery box set for a friend at PAW, these are the finished articles, the WIP are in 2012s list of figures.
The guns were easy to paint, Army Painter Russian Green, pick put the details and a wash of GW Black wash.
The bases were then made up, flocked and sprayed with a matt varnish.
All done!!

Now for the eye candy...

FOW Soviet Heavy Mortars

To add some close in heavy support we have a company of heavy mortars, these four tubes will provide a nasty shock for the German invader when they dare to take more soil from the motherland!!

Command Team and FOOs
Heavy Mortar Section
Not sure if I put the models the correct way on the base??? Too late now!

Polish 75mm Light Guns

More guns for the brave Poles, this time two batteries of 75mm's. I marked the difference by placing the limbers on opposite sides of the base, simple but effective.

FOW Soviets

Ok more of the Red Tide........First off is a Commissar Team, these are QRF? Would someone let me know.

The first batch of painted Plastic Soldier Company, a group of 25. AS you can see they paint up as well as their metal comrades and in the next picture you will see that they are quite close in height and stature. They should mix quite well. My only concern with these figures is there lack of variation, the same basic poses are used twice, just different head gear. That is why I am keen for them to blend with the QRF.
The comparison,
Left to right
QRF, Battelfront Plastic Soldier Company
I should be ok.
In most 'historical' armies I generally only like to use one manufacturer's figures. But with these the PSC where an impulse buy at PAW2011 and the QRF were a steal on EBay. Hopefully the gamble will pay off.

Heavy Mortar Company

Some heavy mortar support for my soviet infantry. A 2 platoon company, very nice models and happy with the look. These are Battlefront Miniatures although they are not as 'stocky' as their SMG troops.

A close up of the individual 'tube'.

The essential bit of the company, the commander and the spotter team.

Flames of War Soviets

Hi guys, here are some examples of, what I think are QRF Russians? Please correct me if I am wrong.
They are nice figures and paint up very well. They are not as chunky as the Battlefront SMG platoon figures but having painted some Battlefront heavy mortars they fit in size with the crews?

So far I have painted about 80 of these guys, so just about a company's worth.

FOW Soviets

Ok, finally get to paint some of my own collection! I have got the FOW bug and have chosen Soviets. I wanted to do Germans but there are already at least 2 German armies at the club.

This is the first Soviet platoon that I have painted and they are Battlefront miniatures. They were very nice to paint and I am doing them in a way which should make the army quite quick.

If you look at the pictures you will see I have gone away from my usual drybrush painting method and adopted a block style with a wash.

I wanted the Soviets to look quite dark and dirty, I think I achieved that a little too well on this platoon!

The basic method was an undercoat spray of FOW German Armour, which is a yellow ochre colour. Then I just painted the figure's details, webbing, weapons flesh and helmet etc.
The whole lot was then given a wash of Games Workshop Delvin Mud which brings out the creases and gives them some depth.

For this army I have somehow managed to get a mix of three different manufacturers Battlefront, QRF and The Plastic Soldier company.
I will do a comparison shot once I have painted examples of all three.

Comments welcome.........

FOW Polish

FOW Polish

FOW Polish

Not another diversion................well not quite these are a commission for one of the guys at PAW, Nigel.

These are some of the 93 artillerymen that I have painted so far and I still have a few more to do. The Poles must like their guns!!

I have not brought the actual artillery pieces with me as I will do them, pre based, once I am home then add the crew. I will add a couple more pics and then add the finished pictures once complete.
