10mm League of Augsburg, Part 2

I found some extra photos of the last battle in the previous post...

Another French infantry brigade

Danish cavalry

French artillery line the hedgrow

Dutch foot guards in a corn field watching the on coming French cavalry

10mm League of Augsburg

The last game using the League of Augsburg forces was fought whilst home.  I did not take part but 'umpired' instead as we had 4 players plus me.  We used our 'go to' set of Warlord's Pike and Shotte.

The game pitted an Allied army who had to try and take the town and drive off the French, they failed!

The guys who actually rolled the dice and moved the figures appeared to have a good time and the rules played very well.

Now the eye candy

French infantry brigade

Dutch cavalry brigade, including the horse guards(light hats) and Swedes in Dutch service, in the foreground.

The Wild Geese...Irish brigade in French service.

French cavalry brigade

The French holding the village, dragoons on the right and Guarde Swisse in the foreground.

The figures are the fantastic Pendraken range and the buildings are pre painted 6mm Russian style that I bought off of EBay

War of the League of Augsburg or Nine Years War

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE

The first post of the year is the last game of 2018, it is also the third game in the Warlord Games Black Powder series, a game of Pike and Shotte.  Now we have played all three books I must admit I really enjoy they way the games play and how much fun we have with them.  For a guy like me the conformity of rule books over the three periods just adds to the fun.
This year we will be trying Hail Caesar with Fantasy additions based on the Facebook Group 'Shadow Storm'

As for this game it features armies of the late 17th Century battling in Europe, the army for the Sun King fighting the league of allies.  So this fits in right at the end of the period covered by 'Pike and Shotte' book.  We used the regiment as a single unit and did not divide the pike and shotte elements.

All the figures are the fantastic Pendraken 10mm League of Augsburg range and are painted and owned by yours truly.

So pictures...........

A partial view of the battlefield, an 6x4 table showing the Allied deployment

The Allied left with Dutch cavalry and infantry brigades

A close up of the Dutch guard cavalry

The Allied French Protestant Brigade, the Huguenots.

A Danish cavalry brigade

The Danish infantry.  The Danes were a little more advanced than the rest and had already dispensed with their pike.  To show this in the game each regiment was give one extra shooting dice.

The French right, dragoons, cavalry and infantry, the infantry being the Irish Brigade

A view from the French center starting with the Irish then the Guards

Me pointing the way for the French advance, well when they decided to move....

The game played out really well, although we did run out of time.  It ended with a minor allied victory.  There were four of us playing and it was an enjoyable way to end the wargaming year.

League of Augsburg Spanish

Well I have finished my Spanish contingent for the League of Augsburg.
As always they are the great Pendraken LoA range.

The last of the Spanish contingent.

 Tercio De Deynes

 Nuevo Dragoons mounted

 Nuevo Dragoons on foot

Artillery, I wish I had painted the carriages a dark wood rather than red as I could have used them for more forces.

And the leadership, two general bases.  Could be used by most sides.

Nine Years War Game

I managed to get a game in when I was home last, I keep saying to myself I need to game more often but work and real life just keep getting in the way!

Anyway, at a new wargames club, South Somerset Wargamers, a small but friendly bunch of guys who formed their own group a few years ago and meet in Ilchester, Somerset.

This is not a battle report just a collection of game pictures.  We played FoG Rennaissance, which to be fare is not my favorite set of rules but I had an enjoyable game and the guys in the group now and like the rule set.

So here's the pictures..........

Allies on the right French on the left

French cavalry coming over the hill

French cavalry on the right flank

Allied dragoons screening the cavalry advance

French infantry battle line

Allied center holding the village. Two regiments of Danes hold the village.  The buildings are actually 6mm, they are either Leven or Battlescene buildings.

The two infantry centers shoot it out

The Allied left flank advance

The village, held by the Danes with the help of Huguenot French regiment on the road.
As I said the game was good fun to play and it gave me an opportunity to get my figures on the table but I think I prefer Black Powder/Pike and Shotte as unit shave to work as brigades which in my mind is more realistic.

I Do Play Wargames (Occassionaly)

Whilst home on my last rotation from work, I did manage to get a wargame in, it doesn't happen very often!!

4 of us played a League of Augsburg, French verses Alliance(The first outing for my collection).  We used Warlord's Pike and Shotte and found it gave a really good and reasonable fast game.  We did have about 12 foot regiments and 10 cavalry regiment per side so it was a large battle (just over 1000 figures).

More pictures to follow.....

League of Augsburg......nearly there

So I have had a nearly two months with work and here are the fruits of my labors!

I set my mind to finishing my 10mm League of Augsburg project and I am so close but its time to go home tomorrow.

So in total I have painted 605 foot, 272 mounted and 6 guns with crews...

So the completed array of figures....French on the left and Allies on the right.  Once these guys join up with the ones at home each army should be about the same size as above.

The Allied forces, 5 regiments of foot, 2 regiments of mounted dragoons, 1 regiment of foot dragoons, 2 regiments of horse, 4 guns and a load of Generals

The French, 6 regiments of foot, 3 regiments of mounted dragoons, 1 regiment of foot dragoons, 3 regiments of horse, 2 guns and a load of Generals
