Starting 2019! 15mm Fantasy!

One of my all time favorite 'periods', I love 15mm fantasy mass battle.

So here is my latest 'warband' to add to the collection.  This will be a nomad/mercenary group from the north, marauding northmen riding small mammoths!

The figures are actually 10mm Ogres by Black Gate Miniatures, (https://www.blackgateminiatures.com).
But they fit in just right with my wide and varied fantasy collection....

And now for the pictures...

15mm Fantasy Barbarians

I had these models laying around so thought I'd finish them off.
These are for my fantasy Barbarian army, in Kings of War terms Large Cavalry.  I just think they are bad ass lol!

Xyston Gauls on plastic toy dinosaurs, I just love them!

15mm Fantasy Barbarians

Barbarians, riders of BIG Warbeasts and 'dino' beasts!

I am sure these will be a fearsome sight for those on the opposite side of the battlefield!

'Large Cavalry', these are dino riders, two warriors on each beast.   These are on large bases and will make great impact troops.
These figures are Schleich plastic dinosaurs and Xyston Gaul figures.

Two Demonworld warbeasts....great miniatures and lovely to paint!

Barbarian War King

The proud and powerful leader of my Barbarian Hordes.  The King sits astride his ferocious War Beast.  From here he can inspire his warriors and strike fear into his enemies.....well that is what he thinks anyway!!

A work in progress shot, figure painted and model dinosaur highlighted.
The King is a Xyston miniature and the Beast is a Schleich plastic toy I bought in Waterstones Bookstore.

The finished model, not too shabby and  the Beast looks great!

Barbarian Warriors

The first batch of Barbarian Warriors, in total there will be 120 figures making up the bulk of the army.
Obviously a work in progress as I will base all of them once complete.  I find that this way you end up with much more variety on each base.

Xyston figures, block painted, Army Painter applied and then matt varnished.

Barbarian War Beast....Finished

The first Barbarian War Beast is finished.....just a reminder the beast is by Demonworld and the crew are Xyston Gauls, they are my  Barbarians!

Here the beast has been given a good coating of Army Painter Dark Tone.  I really love this stuff, I know when you first apply it and leave it to dry the models can look really dark and very shinny.  But once you spray on a Dull Coat or Matt Varnish, the colours really come out.  My only gripe is that I never get to finish a tin as it forms a solid skin over the top and goes very thick :-(

The following photos show the finished model.  I'm very happy with the results and think that once the other 3 are finished they will make a great center piece for the army!!

15mm Fantasy Barbarian Beast of War

Painted my first Barbarian Beast of War, I have another 3 models.
The Beast is Demonworld and the crew are Xyston Gallic.  I had a pile of Xyston Gallic figures, which are great by the way!  I have chosen to use these as my Barbarians and think the fit the bill quite well!

Obviously this is just the basic block painting, with a little dry brushing highlights.  The next stage will be a good coating of Army Painter Dark Tone, brushed on of course....more pictures later.

15mm Fantasy

Additions to my 15mm Fantasy collection, these are figures that have sat on the shelf for a few years and I have finally decided to bring them in form the cold.
Xyston Gallic Gestati, naked fanatics....so what better than these to represent my Barbarian fanatics/beserkers!!

Now if I play Kings of War with these guys they could be like this, 2 bases to a 'regiment' or I could use them 4 bases to a 'horde'....I could even use the lot as one big 'legion' now that option could be fun!  Just imagine all 8 bases in the centre of the Barbarian line just waiting to crash into the enemy's prize troops!!!

As you can see, naked, dirty and covered in blue 'woade' to ward off the enemy's blades!  Just fine fanatics!

Below is a repost of how I'm going to represent 'Large Cavalry'...there will be 3 of these brutes on a base representing a regiment...I think they will be suitably intimidating!  Well I plan on 4 regiments! lol

15mm Fantasy Stygian Royal Army and Barbarians

Some fresh units for my fantasy collection, this time the Stygian Royal Army, these are the devil worshipers from the southern lands.
The army is vast with many races and creeds represented on the field but heart of any large Stygian force if the Royal Army.

The core of their cavalry are armored lancers, heavy impact cavalry that can smash a lesser foe and they consider all non Stygian lesser beings!

These figures are Xyston Achamid Persian Guard Cavalry

The commanders, one for the foot and one for the horse.

The wild men of the north....Barbarians!

 Show me your WAR FACE!!

These are wild, naked men very vicious and very brutal!
They also like the colour blue.......

Again the great Xyston range, this time Gauls.  One thing I have learnt from these Barbarians, you have to repaint the eyes, they all look like the are closed when painted blue!
