15mm Fantasy-Battle Valor Orcs

Battle Valor 15mm fantasy range, which is very large, very good and expanding all the time.  Ed Spettigue has done a fantastic job as is massive supporter of the 15mm fantasy community.  I have backed both of his Kickstarters and they are great value.

Having had this army sat in a box for more than it should have been I have finally managed to put some paint on metal.  Obviously they are not finished, I forgot to take the bases to work lol  Here I have mocked them up on a 160mm x 80mm base which would be a KoW horde, I love the mass effect.

These figures are just wonderful.  The detail and variety is great and they are a joy to paint.  I have chosen a non-green Orc flesh for this tribe to set it apart from all the other Orc and Goblin tribes I have, there are atleast 5 different tribes so far.  I look forward to painting up the rest of the metal pile.

15mm Fantasy-Work In Progress

Continuing the theme of using old Games Workshop Warhammer figures in my 15mm realm here is a picture of a new faction....Chaos/Abyssal Plague Hordes.

The 'Plague Bearers'  will be a large infantry/troll style unit and the 'Nurglings' will be a shooting, spitting venom darts and close combat unit.

The second WIP is a mock up of an Empire Horde unit, under Kings of War.  It's based on the Renaissance Spanish Colunela a combined arms unit of pike, shot and sword/halberd men.

I have based the numbers and layout on John Roache's great blog http://olicanalad.blogspot.com/search/label/Italian%20Wars.  It's a great blog and inspirational on so many levels.
The figures are Old Glory and Venaxia

15mm Fantasy-Non Empire Units

Old Glory 15mm Italian Wars make great Empire troops.  Here are four units Carrborg Greatswords and Bohem Pistoleers, both a 'formed' unit and skirmishers.

15mm Fantasy-Beastman Monster

Another Games Workshop model, an EBay buy, which I painted up, based and will use in my 15mm fantasy realm.  While meant for the beastman hordes it can be used with many armies.

A size comparison between the beast and mere humans!

15mm Fantasy-Horse Lords or Riders of Rohan

A large contingent of humans, these represent the Horse Lords or may be Riders of Rohan.

This is the first batch of these as I intend to increase the size of the army.  But I need to buy them lol

Essex Miniatures, mainly, Dark Ages Range.  The flags and banners are downloaded off the web and printed at home...

15mm Fantasy Demon Horde

Again not really 15mm figures but they will do a great job with their immense size coupled with their great speed and agility...

Now these corrupted demon spawn are a fusion of arachnid and demonette that make a dreadful sight as well as a formidable foe.

I would love to take credit for these wonderful figure, however, I can not!!  I bought them off of EBay exactly as you see them.  I all I have done is based them to match my existing collections.

15mm Non-Empire

Now for something more conventional, just a basic unit of Sword and Bucklers.   They wear the purple and yellow of Ostermark.

Old Glory 15mm Italian Wars Spanish swordsmen.

15mm Fantasy Non-Empire....

The biggest martial investment that a state of the Empire or indeed a wealthy city state can make is the construction of a might Landship.....
These are massive steam powered leviathans armed with mighty cannons and crewed by fearless men and sometimes the odd dwarf.
Being heavily armoured they can place themselves into the hottest part of the battle and use their sheer mass to punch large holes through the enemy lines.

The Landships are armed with two might cannon.  The largest mounted in the hull can only be fired when the Landship is stationary but it can basically target anything on the battle field that it can see.  The second is mounted in a rotating turret and can be fired on the move.  The big gun is also a cause of fear to anyone trying to hide behind a city or fortress wall!

Now a Games Workshop Steam Tank looks far more convincing in 15mm as you can imagine the crew inside feeding the steam boiler and manning the mighty weapons.  But that is just my warped chain of though.

15mm Fantasy, Lots of Them

I have been busy re-basing, touching up, painting and finishing a whole wave of of figures for my fantasy collection.
As it is fantasy not everything needs to be 15mm but the effect on the table, of the various sizes, is visually appealing.

First up is a larger than life drummer....he stands nearly 70mm tall and is based on a 80x80mm base.  He is a giant that will beat the drum to bring the forces of evil to the front and encourage them to close with the enemy.

I have not decided what army or faction he will support, probably my Orcs of the White Hand which have giant trolls accompany them to the battlefield.

Obviously the figure is a GW Lord of the Rings Troll.  he is a plastic figure and I really like him.  I was after one for ages and finally picked one up, at a good price on EBay.

15mm Black Orcs or Great Orcs

The Black Orcs or Great Orcs are a tribe of large fierce Orcs who rely on their size and strength to crush their enemies and cause fear in smaller Orcs and Goblins.

This tribe is made up of large warbands, mass bow and hard hitting boar riders.

The reinforcements to the Black Orc Tribe.

War Drum and  Hero on a Giant Boar

 More Heros and Leaders

 The Warbands

The mighty War Boar Riders, the shock arm of the Black Orcs, which are all pretty shocking anyway

Just to show how mighty the Black Orcs are I have placed them next to some Empire Swordsmen, 15mm Old Glory Renaissance.

These figures will join a few more warband and bow bases at home to make the mighty Black Orc Tribe!

On The Painting Table

So this work rotation I will mainly be painting 15mm fantasy.

To start with a touch up and re-base of a some Blood Dawn Orcs, these are very large and chunky figures but work great for 'Black Orcs' or 'Great Axes'

10MM Seven Years War Russians

So after the Giant army I went the opposite way and returned to some 10mm Seven Years Wars.  As part of my Seven Years War collection I'm building the Russian army for the battle of Zorndoff.
So lots of red uniforms.....and quite a few cossacks.

Here are a few pictures of the batch I painted
9 Generals
 9 Horse Grenadiers
40 Grenadiers
120 Musketeers

Sorry for the bad pics, IPad.
