Marian Roman Cmmission

The end of another rotation and the last batch of the Marain Roman commission.  More legionaries and eight bases of Thracian Mercenaries.

So two battlegroups of Romans, nothing much else to say....

So eight bases of Thracian Mercenaries.  These are later Hellenistic Thracians who were hired as auxiliar by the Legions.
As they will be two separate battlegroups I have painted them up slightly differently.

ACW Confederates

Sorry for the poor pictures but these are the latest Old Glory Confederates for my Regimental Fire and Fury non-project.....Good news is I have bought myself a second hand copy of the rule book and look forward to reading it.

I painted these whilst watching the film 'Gods and Generals', great inspiration!

Romans and Gauls

Yes more Romans, they just keep coming!!  But I've coloured them with some Gauls...

Nothing new to say about the Romans but the Gauls are a little different.

These are two bases of skirmishers, young boys with javelins and older men with sling.

Marian Roman Commission and Punic Wars Project-Gauls

The latest off of the painting table another group of Roman Legionaries and the first two chariots, one base, for the Punic Wars Gauls.  I know that the Gauls did not use chariots by the time Hannibal invaded but but they did use them to fight the Romans just before Hannibal arrived.

More pointy thing throwing Romans

 The Gauls chariots.
Here I have drilled the feet of the crew and glued in pins to hold them in place.  They were trimmed before gluing.

The two chariots on their base 80mmx60mm.  They are from War and Empire and Corvus Belli, I think.

Another New Project :-( Or Non Project 15mm American Civil War

So for over a year I have had a large(ish) pile of 15mm Old Glory ACW figures and after playing a game of Regimental Fire and Fury some months ago I thought I would add them to my 'to do' lost.  So in the spirit of my mix and match box I added some bags of these figures and I pulled one of the bags out!

These are figures advancing at the shoulder wearing greatcoats, fun and quick to paint and I think they look quite nice.

Quite quick to paint, various shades of grey, a coat of Army Painter Dark Tone and matt spray...done!  The flags are self printed from an open internet source.

Marian Roman and Late Acaemenid Persians

Just Romans are pretty boring to look at but are nice to paint and as it is a commission they are great.  But to 'spice' up the post I will add some of my side projects, additional figures to my Late Achaemenid Persians an army that I really do like.

This batch of Romans include two legionary command bases.

These are Kappadokian bowmen, a subject state of the mighty Persian empire.
As skirmish bow troops they have quite a dull pallet but I do like them.
These are lovely Xyston miniatures.

AS you see from this comparison picture the kappadokians are part of the 'larger' sized Xyston ranges, here they are next to Essex Romans.

Punic Wars Project-Italian States

More Italian allies added to the inventory, a base of 6 cavalry, CM in Imputvs terms.

These are Etruscan Cavalry by War and Empire.

Marian Roman Commission

Noting exciting, just the latest batch for Del's commission.
For Essex figures, these are quite enjoyable to paint.

Punic Wars Project-Italian States

A third up date for the day, this time a unit of heavy infantry provided by the Etruscan Italian state.  these represent hopolite style infantry and could be used by both sides in the conflict.

Punic Wars Project-Italian States

Out of my 'pick n mix' box came a bag of Campanion Light Horse.  These are for my Punic Wars collection and I suppose could represent both sides during this conflict.

The miniatures are from the very good War and Empire range.

They will be based once home on an 80x60 Imputvs CL base.

Marian Roman Commission

Continuing the commission, 12 bases of Numidian bow auxiliaries and 4 bases of Roman Horse.  Again Essex figures.
